A New Voice Helping Shape Michigan’s Energy Future

Laura McIntire is bringing a fresh perspective to Michigan's oil and gas industry through a career built on collaboration, innovation, and a commitment to reliable energy. As the first woman elected to the Michigan Oil & Gas Association (MOGA) Board of Directors, she represents an important milestone for the organization while helping guide conversations about the future of energy in the state.

Although her career began in electric generation, Laura's work at one of Michigan's largest natural gas facilities gave her firsthand experience with the importance of dependable, affordable energy. Her involvement in carbon capture initiatives and other collaborative projects eventually led her to work more closely with Michigan's oil and gas producers, providing a unique perspective that bridges energy production, policy, and emerging technologies.

As a member of the MOGA Board, Laura is focused on helping the industry successfully navigate the evolving energy landscape. She believes Michigan's producers play an essential role in delivering reliable energy while also embracing new technologies that reduce emissions and strengthen long-term sustainability. Areas such as carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) and renewable natural gas (RNG) represent significant opportunities to build on existing infrastructure while supporting a lower-carbon future.

Throughout her career, Laura has been guided by mentors who encouraged her growth and challenged her to pursue leadership opportunities. Those experiences have shaped her own leadership philosophy, reinforcing the importance of developing others and creating an environment where people are empowered to contribute new ideas and take on greater responsibility.

Laura also sees collaboration as one of the industry's greatest strengths. She has witnessed increased cooperation among producers, regulators, and industry partners, creating opportunities to address challenges through innovation and practical solutions. While issues such as infrastructure, workforce development, and changing regulations remain important, she believes Michigan is well positioned to adapt through continued investment in technology, skilled professionals, and thoughtful policy.

Becoming the first female member of the MOGA Board is an achievement Laura hopes extends beyond her own career. She believes that diverse experiences and perspectives strengthen organizations and hopes her appointment encourages more women to explore careers in the energy industry and pursue leadership roles.

For Laura, the work is driven by purpose. Contributing to the ongoing evolution of Michigan's energy sector—and helping balance innovation, affordability, and reliability—continues to motivate her every day. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, camping, kayaking, exploring Michigan's beaches and waterfalls, and experiencing everything the Upper Peninsula has to offer.
